Happy 93rd Birthday Saul Bass.
You might not know his name but you’ll recognise his work. Saul Bass was a graphic designer and Oscar winning filmmaker. From the opening sequence in Psycho to some of the best known logos of large corporations, his work is still considered ground-breaking and timeless.
Title sequences like Hitchcock’sVertigo (1958), North by Northwest (1959) andPsycho (1960), and his work also includedSpartacus (1960), West Side Story (1961), The Shining (1980), Goodfellas (1990), Cape Fear (1991) and Casino (1995).
Google have done what Google do (because they have tons of cash) and made a Doodle for Bass, below.
Saul Bass created some of the most recognisable logos that are still used today. He was a master of blending the message of what the company or film was, with innovative and versatile graphic design.
Saul Bass, overall was a bit of a legend. Changing the game of film making and graphics forever, people have been emulating him for years and will do for decades to come.
